Focus on God...Not the Food

Focus on God not the food! Don't allow yourself to become legalistic about what to eat and not eat. I have seen different variations of guidelines for the Daniel Fast. For example: Some say 100% juice is ok and some say not. Then others say you can have juice but only in a smoothie. When choosing what to fast and what to eat, Let the Holy Spirit be your guide. Remember...The fast is about drawing closer to God.

If you slip, don't give up! Just keep going! The first time I fasted I didn't know much about it. While preparing dinner for my kids, I ate a few of their fries. I allowed my self to feel condemned. I even stopped my fast because I felt I had failed. Don't think God's not going to hear you because you slipped up and ate a few french fries. You shouldn't feel condemned because you accidentally (or purposely) ate something not on the guideline.

Preparing for a fast is key. Begin by praying and seeking God about what kind of fast to do. Remember, what you fast is between you and God. What you choose should not be determined by what someone else is doing. Check out the pages titled Types of Fasts and Daniel Fast Guidelines.

Also, pray about how long you will fast. Many churches are participating in a 21 day fast. If you are just beginning don't feel like you have to do the full 21 days. Some people may do 3-4 days a week or some may choose 1 or 2 weeks during the fast. While there are some that may fast longer. Use wisdom and remember to pray to God for guidance.

Apple Pie Oatmeal

Apple Pie Oatmeal

This recipe is a tasty way to prepare and serve a great meal for yourself and your
family. Rolled oats are an excellent food choice for breakfast because they provide
valuable protein, stave off hunger for a long period of time, and provide beneficial fiber to do good work in your body!

INGREDIENTS
- 4 cups water
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups rolled oats
- ½ teaspoon Apple Pie Spice (see recipe below)
- ¼ cup chopped apple

1. Bring water to a boil in medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add
salt and when dissolved, stir in oats and Apple Pie Spice. Reduce heat and
continue to cook for 4 minutes.
2. Add chopped apple and cook for 1–2 more minutes until oats are cooked.
3. Serve in individual bowls with unsweetened soy milk, if desired.
Makes 4 servings

Apple Pie Spice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom

Combine all ingredients. If making a larger batch, store in an airtight container.
Use with Apple Pie Oatmeal or other recipes that call for Apple Pie Spice.

Happy New Year

Hello everyone. Happy 2013! This is one of my favorite times of the year. At the beginning of each year, our church and others around the world participate in 21 days of Prayer & Fasting. I began writing this blog last year to help others have a better understanding about fasting.

It's a new year which means new opportunities and blessings as well as new challenges and trials. What better way to prepare yourself than to start the year with a time of prayer and fasting. Prayer and Fasting allows you to draw closer to God and disconnect from the world. When you Pray & Fast, you are able to cut down the noise and distractions of the world and hear the voice of God more clearly. It's a time to clean out all the junk inside (spiritually & physically).

Keep watching for more tips, deals, and recipes throughout the month. Let me know if you have any recipes you want to share. I encourage you to read the older posts and check out the recipes. I hope that you find them helpful as well as encouraging. I believe that having an understanding about Prayer & Fasting and being prepared are 2 keys for success.

Follow my blog and share it with your friends :)
