Focus on God...Not the Food

Focus on God not the food! Don't allow yourself to become legalistic about what to eat and not eat. I have seen different variations of guidelines for the Daniel Fast. For example: Some say 100% juice is ok and some say not. Then others say you can have juice but only in a smoothie. When choosing what to fast and what to eat, Let the Holy Spirit be your guide. Remember...The fast is about drawing closer to God.

If you slip, don't give up! Just keep going! The first time I fasted I didn't know much about it. While preparing dinner for my kids, I ate a few of their fries. I allowed my self to feel condemned. I even stopped my fast because I felt I had failed. Don't think God's not going to hear you because you slipped up and ate a few french fries. You shouldn't feel condemned because you accidentally (or purposely) ate something not on the guideline.

Preparing for a fast is key. Begin by praying and seeking God about what kind of fast to do. Remember, what you fast is between you and God. What you choose should not be determined by what someone else is doing. Check out the pages titled Types of Fasts and Daniel Fast Guidelines.

Also, pray about how long you will fast. Many churches are participating in a 21 day fast. If you are just beginning don't feel like you have to do the full 21 days. Some people may do 3-4 days a week or some may choose 1 or 2 weeks during the fast. While there are some that may fast longer. Use wisdom and remember to pray to God for guidance.
